When I set out to support agency founders, I didn’t want to be yet another agency advisor pushing growth for the sake of growth. It’s exhausting.
I spent time reflecting on my own agency journey.
Rubber Cheese was built on the foundations of being a truly great place to be. It was fun, we produced amazing work for our clients and developed a team of brilliant people. Who’d have thought our micro-agency in sleepy Hertfordshire would work with global multi-billion pound organisations? And despite not selling it for millions (plot spoiler, most of you won’t) it was frickin fantastic and gave me an awesome life.
There’s a lot to be said for that.
You don’t HAVE to start an agency with the end goal of sale. It’s cool if you’ve made that decision, but equally cool to maybe just enjoy the journey for a while without the pressure.
✅ Yes to building the foundations for sale
✅ Yes to defining your niche sector or service to make the agency more desirable for sale
But if you’re going to invest your time, energy and let’s face it, sometimes sanity into running an agency, you bloody well need to find the joy in it too!
